Rand Jack

Rand is currently living and working in Whatcom County. He is a Yale trained and practicing environmental attorney and a teacher. He was also trained in wood carving by a master carver from Connecticut who came out of a tradition of duck decoy carving; Rand has had a parallel career as a sculptor of birds. He works in hardwoods such as butternut, walnut, fruitwood and maple. He creates highly finished forms and refined surfaces. As with his law practice, his sculptures suggest animal husbandry and a harmonious connection to the natural world including a subtle interplay of the wood and the subject.
